Beckham and Pato in doubt for Bremen UEFA Cup outing

England star David Beckham and Brazilian youngster Pato are doubtful for AC Milan's UEFA Cup clash with Werder Bremen here on Wednesday according to coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Beckham picked up a hamstring injury in AC Milan's 2-1 defeat by city rivals Inter Milan in Sunday's match while Pato, who scored in the Milan derby, also has a muscle problem.

"It is still not certain whether Beckham or Pato will be able to play," said Ancelotti.

Should Beckham - who has been impressive for Milan since his loan move from Los Angeles

Galaxy - play it would represent his first appearance in the UEFA Cup for 14 years having played 103 matches for Manchester United and Real Madrid in the Champions League. AFP

United going for 14th straight shutout vs. Fulham

Manchester United has the chance to extend its lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points when it hosts to Fulham at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The Red Devils go into the game in superlative form, having thrashed Derby County 4-1 in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Sir Alex Ferguson rested the likes of Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez for that match, but they are all likely to start against the Cottagers.

Wayne Rooney is finally close to a return to action after a hamstring injury, although this game may come just too soon for the England striker.

In the league United have been even more formidable, having not conceded a goal since their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in early November last year.

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, formerly of Fulham, has kept 13 clean sheets in a row in the league, going a total of 1,212 minutes since he was beaten by Gunners forward Samir Nasri.

However, United may find Fulham a tough nut to crack, despite Roy Hodgson's side having yet to register a league win on its travels this season.

The Cottagers have drawn six and lost six away matches so far this term, scoring just three times, but only conceding ten goals.

Hodgson's men were also in FA Cup action at the weekend and were somewhat fortunate to escape with a 1-1 draw from their trip to Championship outfit Swansea City.

The winners of that replay will also face United in the sixth round of the competition.

Hodgson has the luxury of a nearly fully-fit squad to choose from with only midfielder Dickson Etuhu (ankle) and Diomansy Kamara (knee) definite absentees.

United have won the last four league meetings of the two sides at Old Trafford, with last season's fixture ending 2-0 to the home side thanks to a double from Cristiano Ronaldo. Sports Network

Manchester City & Manchester United Lead Chase For Starlet Neymar

According to a report in the British local daily The Manchester Evening News, Manchester United and Manchester City are chasing Brazilian wonder-kid Neymar.

The 17-year-old striker, who is yet to play a first-team game for Santos, is already being compared with current Citizens and Selecao star Robinho.

While it is believed that the Manchester duo are ready to bid for his services at the end of the season, the player’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has not confirmed which clubs have registered an interest.

It is thought that London-based outfits Chelsea and Arsenal have also had Neymar, who can play in midfield as well as up front, scouted. There is also supposed to be interest from abroad, namely in the form of Spanish giants Real Madrid. Goal
