AC Milan wait over Kaka's fitness ahead of Serie A showdown with Juventus
AC Milan will give Kaka until the 11th hour to prove his fitness for the Serie A meeting with Juventus.
The two rivals are joint-second in Serie A, six points behind leaders Inter Milan.
"There isn't optimism or pessimism. He has a groin problem. It could be that he doesn't even train today, but he will leave with the squad for Turin," said coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Losing their main creative force would be a further blow to Milan, who will miss midfielder Gennaro Gattuso after he was almost certainly ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.
"This represents a battle for all of us, we are called to give something more to overcome his absence," Ancelotti added.
Ancelotti, a former Juventus coach, said the match felt just like a Milan derby.
"You have the same feelings every time before such an important game, like what happens before a derby. Tomorrow a high level performance is needed and a win will be important," he said.
"There are 11 million Juve supporters but those who still hold grudges are few. For them I am a nemesis but this doesn't interest me."
Juve coach Claudio Ranieri, without winger Mauro Camoranesi after he failed to shrug off a shoulder problem, half expects Kaka to play.
"The great champions will do everything to be in this match. I would not be surprised to see him coming out of the tunnel," said Ranieri.
"Who loses tomorrow night will not be out of the title race but they will have to do something extraordinary to stay on Inter's trail."
Eto'o and Messi give Barca 'Clasico' win
Late goals from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi helped Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2-0 in 'El Clasico' at a rain-soaked Nou Camp on Saturday to move 12 points clear of their rivals in the Primera Liga title race.
Eto'o had seen Iker Casillas save his penalty on 70 minutes but picked himself up to break the deadlock seven minutes from time and Messi produced a delicate chip in stoppage time to seal the victory.
It was Barca's first win over Real since November 2005 and was sweet revenge for last season when Real did a league double and Barca had to perform the guard of honor to salute Real as champions at the Bernabeu before losing 4-1.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for new Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos and the former Tottenham manager has a mammoth task to help Real win a third consecutive title.
There was nothing to choose between the teams in a frantic first half and a draw looked the likely outcome when Eto'o's 70th minute penalty was saved by Iker Casillas after Michel Salgado had blocked Sergi Busquets.
However, Eto'o did not let the miss affect him and he scored the decisive opneing goal in the 83rd minute -- showing a real predator instinct to get a slight touch to prod the ball in after Carles Puyol had kept a corner alive. Messi then rubbed salt in their wounds with a 91st minute chip.
Barcelona will face fellow-contenders Villarreal next weekend while Real entertain Valencia, knowing they cannot afford another defeat.
Meanwhile, Valencia got their title challenge back on track -- coming from behind to defeat 10-man Espanyol 2-1 at home as they moved up to second in the table eight points behind Barcelona.
Substitute Vicente, only on the pitch seven minutes, struck an 81st-minute winner for the hosts after Raul Albiol had cancelled out Roman Martinez's opener for the visitors.
Valencia old boy Francisco Rufete, who won two league titles as a Valencia player in 2002 and 2004, had a nightmare return to the Mestalla stadium getting his marching orders shortly before half-time for a deliberate handball.
Valencia had been crushed 4-0 by Barcelona last weekend so the win was much-needed and another boost was the return of Spanish international Daniel Silva after three months out following ankle surgery.
Espanyol stay third from bottom and have now not won in six matches with new manager Mane still waiting for his first win since taking charge last weekend.
Villarreal are nine points behind Barca in third and travel to fourth-placed Sevilla, just two points behind them, on Sunday. CNN
Pachuca Rallies to Reach Club World Cup Semifinals
Pachuca of Mexico came back from a two-goal deficit Saturday to beat Al Ahly of Egypt, 4-2, after extra time at the Club World Cup in Tokyo.
The Argentine forward Christian Giménez scored twice in the second half for Pachuca, which trailed, 2-0, at halftime. Pachuca will play the South American champion LDU Quito of Ecuador in the semifinals Wednesday.
“We didn’t deserve to be two goals behind,” Pachuca Coach Enrique Meza said. “We were better than Al Ahly in the first half and controlled the entire game. We kept attacking. It’s the only way we know how to play. The better team won. It’s a very simple logic. Bring on LDU. They are a great team, but we don’t fear anyone.”
Ahly took the lead on Fausto Pinto’s own goal in the 28th minute. The Angolan striker Flavio doubled the lead as time ran out in the first half.
The substitute Luis Montes scored for Pachuca two minutes after the break before Giménez curled in a free kick from 25 yards to tie the score in the 73rd minute.
Striker Damian Alvarez gave Pachuca the lead eight minutes into extra time, and Giménez scored his second goal to seal the victory.
“We panicked,” Ahly’s Portuguese coach, Manuel José, said. “Clearly the players couldn’t handle the pressure. We were 2-0 up at halftime and lost, 4-2. No excuses. It was mental weakness.”
