Chelsea line up bid for Thierry Henry

CHELSEA are considering a $20 million move for Barcelona striker Thierry Henry in the January transfer window, according to a report in London today.
And former Arsenal striker Henry, 31, has made no secret of the fact he would like to return to London.

The Daily Mail says Luiz Felipe Scolari, the Chelsea manager, is concerned that he has few alternatives to Nicolas Anelka in attack.

Didier Drogba is struggling for full fitness after a series of injuries and Salomon Kalou is the only experienced alternative up front.

Chelsea were beaten to the signature of Real Madrid's Robinho in August and Scolari knows as the season progresses the Blues will need added firepower.

Henry is in his second season with Barcelona aftere leaving Arsenal. The Frenchman has constantly complained that he has been used in a wide left role rather than a central striker - a position filled by Samuel Eto'o.

Although Barcelona, under new coach Pep Guardiola, are top of La Liga Henry may welcome a return to London following his splt with wife Clare.

Henry has made no secret that he misses daughter Tea and said recently: "Although I work in Barcelona my heart is in London."

Juventus Make Diego Progress

The Bianconeri are keen on the Brazilian midfielder with reports suggesting he is always coming closer to making a move to Turin.

Tuttosport claims Juventus have already made an agreement with the player, but now they have to try their best at convincing the German side to part-company with their man.

Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs may allow Diego to leave if the money being waved around Vinovo is right. The midfielder is unlikely to come on the cheap, but the Old Lady wouldn't mind splashing out on a rising star with plenty of European experience under his belt.

The only problem would be getting rid of under-fire midfielder Tiago. The Portuguese seems unhappy at Juve and he will need to be shipped out before Diego can be brought into the squad.

Reports suggest Atletico Madrid may turn their hand to Tiago in January which would mean the Bianconeri will move and shake for the Bremen star.

Diego has always stated his desire to play for Juventus and his ambitions may become reality sooner rather than later as the Italians are prepared to snap him up quickly in attempt to stop the competition from trying to scupper the deal.

Cicinho ‘Defends’ Own Goal

A Francesco Totti strike had set the Lupi on the road to their first away win of the campaign on Saturday night, but a seemingly innocuous Marco Di Vaio cross was turned in with a spectacular diving header by the former Real Madrid man.

“I am deeply sorry, but I feel serene as I could not have done things differently,” Cicinho told Romanews.eu.

“Truth be told, I just threw myself toward the ball trying to drive it out for a corner. I saw a shadow on my left and felt that if I had moved out of the way, I would have committed a big mistake.

“The Bologna striker was right there, about to meet the ball and easily turn it in. Either way, people would have said I was at fault. Unfortunately I had to make a decision in a split second and it went wrong.”

The Eternal City outfit were coming off the convincing win over Chelsea in the Champions League, but were unable to carry their European form into the domestic season.

“When good luck is not on your side, everything is more difficult,” continued the right-back, “something like this would not have happened last term, when lady luck smiled on us, but this term it’s completely different…”
